Position Statement:
The Underground Utility Foreman will supervise and coordinate activities of workers, materials and equipment related to all underground utility activities on civil construction projects in a safe and timely manner, utilizing the highest quality of workmanship.
Reporting:
Reports to superintendent and if superintendent is not on job site project manager.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Supervise all underground utility activates by SpawGlass field employees and all sub contractors.
• Competence in shoring safety and all other aspects of safety working with underground utilities.
• Backs up the superintendent as the OSHA “Competent Person” and should possess valid First Aid Certification and be able to articulate the relevant safety regulations for the work being performed.
• Ability to be subject matter expert in field of work being completed, in order to step in if needed or conduct training.
• Know and comply with and be passionate about all SpawGlass safety rules/policies and OSHA regulations, including hazardous communications, fall protection plan, confined space program.
• Model safe work practices, including wearing of all personal protective and safety devices.
• Report to superintendent any safety violations by crew members or subcontractors.
• Oversee underground utility crew to ensure correct methods are employed and strict adherence to safety rules/regulations.
• Under direction of superintendent, conduct daily/weekly “Tool Box Talks” on the assigned subjects.
• Responsible for correcting any unsafe conditions that may exist or occur on the job site. This includes assisting with job site inspections. Follow through with any directions for abatement of any noted unsafe condition or hazard. Always report to your supervisor any unabated unsafe condition
• Together with the Superintendent, look ahead, organize and coordinate work schedules for any underground utility work performed on project.
• Plan for job equipment, material and personnel requirements as far in advance as possible.
• Attend any required meetings.
• Attend all scheduled supervisory meetings as assigned, together with all other company events/functions.
• Attend all training classes, seminars as assigned.
• Complete any necessary daily job logs.
• Promote rapport and team work among field crew.
• Know what to do if an OSHA inspector comes on site.
• Know what to do/not to say in the event of a crisis on site.
• Always present yourself in a professional manner that enhances the reputation of SpawGlass.
• Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
Essential Functions:
You must be able to twist, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, climb stairs, walk on uneven ground, work above ground on scaffolds, have depth of perception to avoid excavations and other hazards, hear well enough to recognize the sounds of horns and sirens on moving equipment and have good finger manipulation. There is a constant lifting of 10 lbs, frequent lifting of 25 lbs and maximum single person lifting of 60 lbs. For items over 60 lbs. get assistance from a co-worker. Employee must be able to climb on heavy equipment, carry and use hand tools. There is standing up to seven hours of an eight hour shift.
Work Environment:
Exposure to noise, dampness, heat, cold, dust, fumes (must wear proper PPE), chemicals, at heights and confined spaces. The temperatures which must be tolerated are 25 – 115 degrees F.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED. Ability to read safety information and write. Minimum of 5 years experience and a proven ability to lead others.
