Position Statement:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible to for operating a variety of equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Reporting:
Reports to superintendent and if superintendent is not on job site project manager.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Operate all heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, motor graders and other heavy equipemtn) in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
• Proficiency with GPS machine controlled systems on heavy equipment.
• Ability to communicate with other individuals on job site to ensure appropriate job is
performed.
• Ensure all equipment is safely and securely stored.
• Ensure access to businesses, houses, water supply and other sites are maintained.
• Make certain no digging is done unless all safety precautions have been taken to ensure no lines are broken.
• Knowledge of road construction.
• Advise Foreman or Superintendent if any maintenance needs to be performed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
You must be able to twist, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, climb stairs, walk on uneven ground, work above ground on scaffolds, have depth of perception to avoid excavations and other hazards, hear well enough to recognize the sounds of horns and sirens on moving equipment and have good finger manipulation. There is a constant lifting of 10 lbs, frequent lifting of 25 lbs and maximum single person lifting of 60 lbs. For items over 60 lbs. get assistance from a co-worker. Employee must be able to climb on heavy equipment, carry and use hand tools. There is standing up to seven hours of an eight hour shift.
Work Environment:
Exposure to noise, dampness, heat, cold, dust, fumes (must wear proper PPE), chemicals, at heights and confined spaces. The temperatures which must be tolerated are 25 – 115 degrees F.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED. Ability to read safety information and write. Minimum of 5 years experience and a proven ability to lead others.
