POSITION: Strategic Industry Developer (Business Project Manager)

JOB DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for activity related to business retention and expansion by providing support to existing industry and communities requesting state-level assistance with expansion programs and business recruitment related to the aerospace and defense industry. Will maintain and grow network of companies in the aerospace industry to offer support as needed. Will work closely with other division directors to market the state and coordinate activity to increase existing, domestic and international investment in the State of Oklahoma. Project Manager will participate in the process of identifying and coordinating site locations with appropriate division, and economic development community within the state.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Proactive outreach to existing Aerospace, Defense and UAV businesses in the state
•Proactively recruit new businesses to the State of Oklahoma; developing target lists of site consultants and companies; researching and contacting the most likely candidates for location or expansion.
•Responsible for developing a list of ongoing business retention and expansion projects per year, focusing on companies that will increase the local per capita personal income.
•Support communities that request assistance in recruiting or expansion and coordinate site identification with appropriate agency personnel. Expertise shall include Quality Jobs profiles, incentive analyses, proposal coordination and preparation, company research, site selection research, state and local information.
•Plan, coordinate, and perform host duties for prospects. Coordinate, plan, prepare, and participate in missions and other Team activities. Will lead some out-of-state missions.
•Accurately update and maintain Division databases with client information to facilitate reporting project status to Division and team managers. Prepare and submit comprehensive status and activity reports.
•Must have established networks of potential clients in industry and among site location consultants developed at trade shows, special events, and other networking opportunities. Foster and coordinate critical alliances of Oklahoma resources to assist with recruitment initiatives.
•Must present tax and investment seminars for site consultants and companies.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Candidates should possess a comprehensive knowledge of the aerospace and defense industry in both the commercial and military sectors. Extensive project management, marketing and sales techniques are also required; best business practices; community and regional economic development programs and practices; and state and Federal government agencies involved in economic development and/or recruiting and their functions. Strong analytical/problem solving and excellent oral/written communication skills are essential. Ability to operate effectively in a multicultural environment. Must be effective in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with Department and Division personnel, state and community officials, and the economic development community. Skill and experience in organizing information, writing reports, and presenting material are also required. Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, displaying personal initiative and direction. A general knowledge in personal computer systems, databases and applications is required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have Bachelors or Post Graduate degree with an emphasis in marketing, business, or a related field and six or more years experience in aerospace related activity, economic development, business, and marketing in the private sector. Equivalent combination of experience and education will be accepted.
Must have middle management level experience in business, economic development, or marketing. Commercial and/or military related to Aerospace, Defense and or UAV as well as Economic Development experience is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess the ability and willingness to perform job-related travel (up to 50% of time) to meet with companies, consultants and alliances, which may require extended and irregular hours and may be physically taxing.
