Strategic Building Solutions (SBS), one of the region’s premier providers of facilities planning, owner’s project management, commissioning, and energy services, seeks a Manager of Business Development for our New York City office.
With offices throughout the Northeast, SBS is a rapidly growing firm of professionals that partner with institutions and organizations to create buildings that work and operate efficiently. SBS is continuously seeking exciting new opportunities in the education, healthcare and commercial building markets of the Greater Metro area.
To help us uncover and develop these opportunities, we are looking for a proactive individual who can join our business development team and build new business and client relationships that allow us to deliver the firm’s expertise and top notch client service.
The core responsibilities of the Manager of Business Development includes, but are not limited to:
• Collaborating with Director of Business Development and Firm’s practice leaders to create prospecting strategies and identifying appropriate events and associations to participate in to support the execution of business development plans and goals.
• Researching, identifying and tracking project opportunities in defined target market sectors
• Developing relationships with key decision makers and influencers in prospective owner institutions and organizations as well as with industry peers
• Partnering with Firm’s practice leaders to support firm’s prospecting efforts
• Collaborating with Director of Business Development and/or Marketing Department on presentation materials tailored to new business presentations and BD efforts
• Collaborating on presentation and interview strategies with Firm’s practice leaders, Director of Business Development and Marketing Department,
• Managing the office’s prospect and client database and tracking new business opportunity pipeline,
• Participation in tradeshows and industry events as necessary
Desired Skills & Experience:
The BD Manager should have business development experience calling on owner types (preferably healthcare, higher education, commercial and high rise residential building owners), owner’s reps., property managers, architects, etc. with at least a basic understanding of building systems, design and/or construction. Experience in the corporate, healthcare or education markets is a plus. This person would ideally live in the metro NYC area, be based out of the NYC office (near Grand Central Station) with occasional trips/meetings required in the Madison, CT office.
The Manager, Business Development will have the opportunity to work regularly with firm and office leadership but will also be required to work independently. He or she must be a self-motivated, high-energy, strategic business thinker who can manage simultaneous efforts and possesses experience using research and insight.
Job Requirements:
• BA or equivalent required; advanced degree (MBA) preferred.
• 5-10 years working experience, with most in a business development / sales role
• Experience in the design, construction, or development field a plus, but not required
• Existing network of contacts in Greater New York city education, healthcare and commercial markets highly preferred
• Propensity to think creatively and strategically
• Strong presentation abilities, skilled at presenting ideas clearly and listening effectively
• Excellent organizational skills a must
• Highest level of professionalism and self-confidence
• Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
• Team player attitude
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be able to travel outside of NYC
