Montana Conservation Corps’ Veterans Green Corps is a crew based program that provides veterans of OIF and OEF an opportunity to redefine their service to the country, while giving them the tools and resources to become active members in their communities.
Crews live, camp, eat and work together in an intense social environment of hard work and brotherhood that fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and commitment to the team. Crews spend 10 weeks completing fuels reduction projects on public lands, while engaging in a variety of technical and soft skills training and practice. With these skills in hand, veterans are better prepared to pursue civilian jobs with public land agencies.

For most hitches the crew will be camped out in designated camp sites they will make their home for the duration of the work in a pacific area. However we recommend members being able to backpack up to 12 miles/day carrying all tools and equipment necessary for their job and able to work 8-10 hours/day of labor intensive work for 9 days at a time. The entire project is focused on fuels reduction so an interest in using chainsaws and crosscut saws is essential. Primitive camping should be expected. Crews will be provided a food allowance, stoves, and cooking gear. Each individual on the crew will be expected to cook, clean, and take the necessary precautions for living in Bear country.
Applicants must have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and have a DD214. Qualified individuals with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. We provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals.
