JOB DESCRIPTION:
Greenleaf Integrative Strategies (www.greenleaf-is.com) provides training and support services to enhance the resiliency and performance of professionals working in high-pressure and/or trauma-related situations. As a full-time member of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) Training Team, the Learning Designer and Trainer will be responsible for course design, training material creation and editing, and training delivery in support of USAID/OFDA based in Washington, DC. Training courses will include, but are not limited to the following categories: Rapid Response, Disaster Preparedness, Transition Initiatives, Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Response, DART, Field Operations, Food Aid, and Conflict and Complex Environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Establish standard templates and processes for course design and production.
• Stay up to date on innovations in learning design.
• Maintain a library of best practices for the entire OFDA training team. Help the team incorporate the best practices.
• Design individual courses, including clarifying objectives, choosing methods, compelling visual formats, and participatory exercises.
• Work with team members and other subject-matter experts to help them with design.
• Create course content, including visuals and speakers notes.
• Establish visual graphics templates for new courses, and enhance visuals in existing courses.
• Deliver live trainings, both to communicate information and engage participants.
• Update existing trainings, collaborating with subject-matter-experts to create trainings, or producing content for new trainings.
• Maintenance of training management software, calendars, procedures and tools; communicate with training participants and instructors
• Periodically conduct training needs assessments.
• Position may require some overseas travel.
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
• Required: Bachelor’s degree.
• Preferred: Advanced degree or military equivalent.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
• Course design and content creation for instructor-led and/or online courses.
• 5 years or more of experience with civilian agencies, military, industry, or non-governmental organizations.
• Delivery of live training programs (including both prepared remarks as well as engaging the participants in dialogues/exercises).
• Updating / editing training materials.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Work with international humanitarian and disaster relief.
• Work with a federal agency, especially USAID/OFDA.
• Extensive use of a learning management system (LMS).
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Ability to design and produce high-quality course materials (including PowerPoint presentations).
• Must be able to create high levels of engagement in an adult learning context.
• Ability to collaborate and build relationships enthusiastically at all levels of an organization.
• Must demonstrate strong communication skills; provide feedback to subject-matter-experts respectfully and constructively.
• Self-motivated (i.e. ability to drive projects independently when needed).
• Must have the ability to think strategically and solve complex problems.
