Denver Research Institute (DRI) serves as the nonprofit research management organization affiliated with the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System. It is dedicated to research and its associated educational and scientific endeavors. Job Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Clinical Research Manager / Endocrine Administrator, the primary responsibility of the Professional Research Assistant is to serve as a clinical research coordinator and support various research activities within the Division of Endocrinology’s Research Program. The incumbent will be responsible for communicating with the IRB and may be asked to apply for clinical research trials under the supervision of the Clinical Research Manager.
Major responsibilities will include recruiting patients for the research studies, maintaining clinical records and computer records of all subjects, providing all necessary documentation and communication to the sponsoring agencies, invoicing the sponsoring agencies, communicating with subjects, and documenting all findings. The incumbent must possess or be eligible to learn phlebotomy skills and be familiar with computer programs.
Perform the day to day duties required for clinical trial operations including but not limited to:
• conducting initial recruitment and completing medical history for research study subjects
• scheduling study subjects’ clinic visits
• assisting physicians with physical examination of study subjects and interpreting findings
• obtaining blood and urine samples from subjects
• assisting with biopsies of fat and muscle
• preparing laboratory specimens to be sent to clinical laboratory
• reporting laboratory and physical finding of the study subjects to research study physicians concerning subjects’ status
Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory and Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions as needed. This includes sponsor required start-up regulatory work, preparation and submission to local institutional committees, and preparation and submission directly to the IRB, and ongoing maintenance of clinical trials to ensure each study remains in compliance with all applicable timelines under the supervision of Dr. Rasouli/Clinical Research Manager/Endocrine Administrator.
The study coordinator may be responsible for the recruitment of clinical trial research subjects and the maintenance of study specific advertising under the supervision of Dr. Rasouli/Clinical Research Manager/Endocrine Administrator.
Abstract data from patient charts. Generate and maintain confidential research records. Track patient participation. Create and maintain databases and systems to ensure appropriate recordkeeping. Coordinate with the research and clinical teams to schedule subjects for research visits, records for research study patients. Documents medical findings.
Complete research documentation utilizing medical records, lab guidelines, protocol information and other resources to accurately pre-screen potential participants.
Meets with Dr. Rasouli/Clinical Research Manager/Endocrine Administrator on a weekly basis with fully prepared charts. Communicates changes in research protocols to research physician, keeping her informed of any procedural operation changes for the protocols. Communicates with study subjects to be certain that they are prepared for the study, are appropriately consented and to follow up after the visit to ensure that no adverse events occurred.
