Position Description:
Under general supervision, position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the central heating and central cooling plant. This includes but is not limited to centrifugal chillers, boilers, steam generators, pumps, variable frequency drives, hydronic piping systems, cooling towers and other similar equipment. Incumbent utilizes an Energy Management Control System (EMCS) to optimize equipment operation.
Under direct supervision, performs repairs to main central plant equipment such as boilers, centrifugal chillers and steam generators. Position is responsible for responding to various emergency calls, alarms, and customer requests throughout the Institute.
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Minimum of one year of vocational school or equivalent is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years working as a Boiler or Chiller plant operator is required.
Special Requirements:
- Must be willing to work any shift including weekends (6:00 a.m. - 2: 30 p.m., 2:00 p.m. - 10:30p.m., 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.)
- Must successfully complete a post-offer physical examination.
- Must join the IUOE on or after the 30th day of regular (non-temporary) employment.
- Willing to sign an employee confidentiality agreement.
- Satisfactory completion of institute's background investigation.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
As a safeguard for employees and animals, all FS employees may be subject to vaccines/tests/physical exams prior to working with specific animals or animal populations as required by research needs including but not limited to:
- TB Testing/Clearance (every six months / twice a year)
- Measles (proof of immunization and/or vaccination)
Physical Requirements:
Requires constant seeing, adjusting focus, and hearing.
