Position Description:
The General Maintenance Technician IV is the highest level in the series, and is distinguished from the other technicians in the class by the level of complexity and responsibility that is required. Incumbents are commonly referred to as "working leads." Under limited direction from the Supervisor, Facility Services, this position provides the most senior-level technical service or support in one of the general maintenance areas and trains lower level employees in various technical skills. Incumbents must maintain an awareness of the maintenance workload and available resources to make maintenance decisions. Incumbents will supervise employee performance, oversee the information gathering, diagnosis, and scheduling associated with preventative and corrective maintenance programs; manage the work control program; develop the work team. This position will involve extensive communication and scheduling. Incumbent may act in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Supervisor, Facility Services, excluding disciplinary responsibilities.
Incumbents are expected to have lead level expertise in the following areas:
-Carpentry: Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes. May be required to have certification or know national building codes specific to carpentry.
Education:
A High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent trade or vocational education or training is required.
Experience:
Required:
- 5+ years of general construction/ maintenance experience or equivalent trade or vocational education.
- 3 years of training and experience in a specialized technical area.
- Highly skilled and experienced with a variety of tools and equipment for specific trade.
- Highly skilled and experienced in reading blue prints, shop drawings and sketches.
Preferred:
- Full to advanced proficiency in multiple trades through hands-on experience.
Special Requirements:
- Post-offer physical required.
- Must be able to work overtime as required based on operational needs (including occasional weekends).
Regular, reliable, on-time attendance required.
- Must be able to adjust regularly assigned work schedule based on workload and deadlines (earlier start/later end).
- Must be able to operate a computer based maintenance management system.
- State pesticide application license desirable. If held, must complete required continuing education.
- May be required to have certification or know national building codes specific to trade.
- Satisfactory completion of the Institute's background investigation.
- Willing to sign an employee confidentiality agreement.
