Position Summary:
Develop technical, detailed planning documents to support software QA and test objectives. Personally, as well as directing supporting personnel, test development builds, test releases, beta releases and final release candidates of software for function completeness, stability, usability, reliability, performance and compatibility issues. Exhibit independent analysis as it relates to Quality Assurance and Testing while demonstrating the ability to extrapolate tasks as to what is needed up to and including detailed planning, goal setting and/or technical leadership on the testing team.
Responsibilities:
• Overall develop a testing strategy and organization that yields predictable and consistent quality software release: author release test plans and/or quality test plans as needed.
• Establish test suites to insure coverage and ability to catch functional regressions due to source code changes.
• Maintain and enhance a test coverage reporting system that enables test case assignment, tracking and informs Engineering and Product Management of progress and results.
• Author test plans, test cases and test inputs to fully qualify multiple PASCO data acquisition software products (which may be developed both inside and outside the company and/or embedded device software). Execute tests on these software products in standalone and system test scenarios with multiple interfaces, sensors, and platforms (Windows, Mac, iOS, Linux, Android, etc.).
• Create test plans that define expected results against various hardware and UI use cases. The testing program may also include testing to specific lab experiments with prior known expected results.
• Submit and maintain software bug inputs with detailed information on how to reproduce problems, assess defect severity, potential workarounds, environments explicitly tested, and verification notes. Characterize reported internal and external customer issues including replication and isolation.
• Standardize test related documentation templates (to ISO 9001 standards) and maintain them in the PASCO documentation systems. Use existing test management databases to plan test suites, execute tests and log results.
• Attend meetings that pertain to software design and project meetings that are relevant to assigned projects. Proactively insure a Quality Assurance presence in project meetings where details pertinent to test development and software are discussed.
• Work directly with software developers in the initial stages of product development to target and test new features and software changes.
• Monitor source code changes, map them to areas of test and execute tests as necessary.
• Within the software bug management system, confirm and verify corrected defects and report results.
• Work closely with Teacher Support to report, monitor, and analyze software issues. Provide support to the Teacher Support Department to resolve customer software issues as quickly as feasible.
• Qualify localized version of software
• Identify and utilize tools to automate software test and analysis as much as possible.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A four year degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience in software development and/or software testing.
• Four years' experience as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer. Prior experience with direct software development a plus. Experience with programming, defect tracking systems, source control systems, automated test tools and software development process in some combination required.
• Understanding and passion for science as taught in High School or first two years of college a plus.
• Demonstrated experience in authoring, developing, implementing and executing Software Quality Test Plans and Procedures.
• Demonstrated experience in collecting test requirements and specifications required to develop tests as part of an overall test program.
• Demonstrated experience with integration test planning approaches and related experience with regression testing, acceptance testing and risk-based testing, and other test methodologies used.
