Diesel Truck/Equipment Mechanic:
Job Description:
Maintains diesel/gasoline vehicle operation by completing inspection, technical service and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records. This can include cleaning, maintenance, visual inspection and removal of parts and attachments as well as installation with help of proper manuals, report writing, disassembly, part reuse evaluation, and reconditioning.
Technician responsibilities:
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections, diagnostic tests, test drives, observing and listening to vehicle in operation, adjusting controls and systems; identifying worn and damaged parts, reading job orders, in order to determine malfunction and plan work procedures
- Performing general and detailed repair of all trucks, engines, and components
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Overhauling gas or diesel engines
- Examining protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and making adjustments as needed
- Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
- Tagging all warranty parts and returning to warranty clerk
- Updates job knowledge by participating in training classes and various educational opportunities, and keeping abreast of factory technical and regulation publications
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers
- Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Maintain advanced knowledge of a vehicle’s drive train components, including differential, drive shaft and transmission, suspension and steering systems, air brake and valve systems, as well as the electrical and hydraulic systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions, on site and on the road, including
- Advanced drive train component repair and maintenance
- Advanced knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems to maintain and repair the vehicles in a timely and safe manner
- Advanced knowledge of air brake and valve systems to effectively diagnose and repair complex braking and valve systems in the vehicles in a timely and safe manner; and
- Safely repair vehicles that have broken down on the road to ensure that the Company’s customers and clients’ trucks & equipment are returned to operation in a safe and efficient manner.
- Identify the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools. Refer more complex repairs to a Technician A, Lead Technician or Maintenance Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications and Preferred:
- 3+ years of experience in a technical position demonstrating knowledge of both gasoline and diesel powered equipment diagnosis and repair required
- ASE certifications in related fields required
- Class A or Class B or Class C Commercial Drivers’ License is required, along with a Class E
- One of the following: CAT, Cummins, International, Detroit Diesel or Paccar certifications are required
- Ability to pass pre-employment testing (drug, background and DMV)
- Basic understanding of work order labor time standards and application of OSHA Haz Com principles
- Basic understanding of OSHA Lock Out Tag Out procedures and all OSHA Fire Protection regulations
- Prior experience or knowledge of maintenance work of and ability to use MS Excel and word processing applications
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver’s license & insurable
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must possess own hand tools
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule (to include nights, weekends & holidays) as required by Management
- Must be able to successfully complete a background check, drug screening and MVR check
- Certification from an accredited Vocational or Technical Automotive school preferred
- Cummins Caterpillar International School Bus Recreational Vehicles relevant work experience preferred
- Diesel Engine repair experience is a plus
